Description / Use

P-1® Medium is intended for use in culturing human gametes and embryos during fertilization and growth through Day 3 of development. P-1® Medium was developed by Dr. Thomas B. Pool, Fertility Center of San Antonio, based upon the original HTF formula but modified to provide a glucose-free and phosphate-free environment. This formulation also contains taurine, an amino acid shown to have protective and embryogenic functions. P-1® Medium is bicarbonate-based and is designed for procedures utilizing a CO2 incubator.

Requires Protein Supplementation. 100 mL.

Sperm Maintenance Medium

Description / Use

Sperm Maintenance Medium uses only 1 mL of medium per 3 mL of semen or sperm. This more efficient medium means lower costs per cycle of sperm cryopreservation, minimal dilution of low quality semen, and potentially fewer straws/vials per patient. Sperm Maintenance Medium has similar performance to Freezing Medium TYB, a TEST-yolk buffer based sperm cryopreservation medium, without containing egg yolk (Es-slami, 2009). The medium’s unique formulation contains ingredients, such as hypotaurine and ascorbic acid, that have been shown to protect against reactive oxygen species.

    – 28% v/v glycerol for a 3:1 ratio of semen to medium
    – Antioxidants, such as hypotaurine and ascorbic acid

ECM® is a modification of P-1® Medium that contains glucose, alanyl-glutamine and EDTA, components shown to benefit human embryo development. ECM® is bicarbonate based and is designed for procedures utilizing a CO2 incubator.

Available in 2 x 20 mL configuration. Already supplemented with protein (10% DSS) for a final total macromolecule concentration of 7 mg/mL.

Oocyte Collection Needle

Description / Use

The devices feature:

  • An echogenic triple bevel single lumen needle.
  • A thin tube connecting the needle to a bung.
  • A vacuum tube connecting the bung to the aspiration source.
  • A three-way flushing valve (for the model concerned), to choose between aspiration or rinsing the follicles.

The complete sets (needle + tubing) provide adapted storage conditions for the oocytes during the collection, particularly being able to maintain the vials at an appropriate temperature using heating systems.
